Educational, Social and Health Assistance Center

  • The poorest populations in the Andes of Peru suffer many problems that are a consequence of poverty and social marginalization, but the most affected are children, since they are born they do not receive adequate food, they grow exposed to many dangers and diseases, some leave their studies and others have to work since they are very young. They do not have the possibility to enjoy their childhood, to play, learn and develop properly, their diet is very poor, as well as their health, there is a lot of malnutrition, anemia and parasitosis. In addition, their families are facing serious economic and social problems such as violence, alcoholism, abandonment, etc.
  • Improve the quality of life of the poorest children in rural areas and their families, through integral development, providing them with food, protection, education and health care in a healthy, safe and dignified family environment; away from abuse, neglect and child labor.

WE WORK IN FOUR MAJOR AREAS

EDUCATION: We help in the educational formation of children, offering them an alternative to spend their time in a useful way, learning and improving their cognitive development in a framework of affectivity and respect.

  • We contribute to improve their education by reinforcing the knowledge acquired in the school.
  • We develop creative, recreational and sports activities, such as growth tools, personal development and improvement of their academic performance.
  • We strengthen good habits of coexistence and respect.
  • We promote the development of skills and talents.
  • They are offered adequate space, out of danger, to play with other children guided by teachers, monitors and volunteers.
  • We strengthen self-esteem and the vision of a better future.

FOOD: Every day children and their families are given a ration of food, according to the nutritional needs of each.

  • We provide daily meals to children and their families.
  • We give advice and food planning to families.

HEALTH: We closely monitor the development of children, their health and that of their family, working primarily on preventive health.

  • We monitor the health of children and their families.
  • We take care of diseases and immediate problems, emergencies.
  • We do prevention and awareness campaigns.
  • We make home visits.
  • We promote preventive health.
  • We identify and develop intervention plans for vulnerable, disabled, elderly and pregnant populations.
  • We also attend to other health issues, such as mental and oral health.

SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT: Our social worker identifies problems in each family, which we help to solve through intervention plans.

  • We give workshops to improve family life.
  • Family monitoring and counseling are done.
  • Problems of violence and abandonment are identified and solved.
  • We provide safe spaces to play and meet friends during their time alone while parents are working.

Rural Schools

Education for boys and girls in rural areas

Who we help:

  • Girls and boys between six and twelve years old who attend schools in rural areas.

Objectives

  • Promote human development, strengthening skills through the formal teaching of English, computer and art.
  • Promote the human and intellectual development of children.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of educational quality.
  • Improve children’s opportunities by giving them tools that schools cannot normally give.

Descripción del Programa

  • Rural schools are primary education centres. They depend economically on the Peruvian state and they provide formal education for children between 6 and 12 years of age. In these schools the lack of professionals and the lack of a proper budget make it impossible for children to have activities that adequately complement traditional education, making this an incomplete education.
  • Expand Peru through the Rural Schools program dictates different and varied courses that allow children to acquire different knowledge and skills such as computing, English, art, among others. That is why we need your help to improve the educational level of our schools and help in this way so that children have a good education and a better future.

Work / Volunteer Activities

  • The important thing about working as a volunteer in this project is the interaction with the children, they need a lot of attention and dedication.
  • According to their abilities, the volunteer can choose the course that can best develop them, between: English, Art and Computing.
  • If you have some different qualities let us know so that we can organize something special.
  • Remember that everything that can contribute to the personal and emotional growth of children is useful and necessary.

Who we help

Objectives

  • To help children and adolescents with special education needs, due to intellectual and/or sensory disabilities; developing their skills, talents, intellect, habits and moral abilities, which will allow them to integrate into society.

Program Description

  • The welfare of children is one of the most important responsibilities of society. But the poor conditions of the economy that exist in Peru, as well as hunger, malnutrition, unemployment and lack of good medical care, have caused us to have a high level of disability that affect children. This represents a health problem because of the impact on the quality of life of the child, the impact on the family and the resources that society must dedicate to their care.

Trabajo / Actividades del voluntario

  • Work in specific areas: Sensory and mental deficiencies.
  • Health: coordination and support in activities with the medical department.
  • Assistance and social service.
  • Skill development: Spare time activities
  • Recreational activities and integration with children.
  • Sports and games activities, art, dance, and singing, recreational activities.
  • Direct actions and help to the staff: Physical, psychological, speech therapy, etc.

“Disability” is considered as a restriction or absence of carrying out activities in a normal way and affects the person in their environment. In general, it represents a temporary or permanent reduction in functional capacity. These include damage to the ear, Amblyopia, Physical and intellectual deficiencies, Speech disorder, Physical disability of the skeleton and muscles, among others. The volunteering program of Expand Peru promotes different activities which increase the quality of care and special education services that children with disabilities receive, so that their quality of life and social integration improve.
