Great Inca Route

From August 10th to 26th, 2021


An adventure through the most beautiful and interesting places in Peru! We will travel around the country exploring ancient Inca roads, cities, and archaeological remains, as well as Peru's most important protected natural areas.


Enjoy a unique experience in Peru where you will immerse yourself in its rich culture, history, and beautiful nature, while also contributing directly to the most vulnerable Andean populations.

ITINERARY

Lima - Selva central- Valle del Mantaro - Huancavelica - Ayacucho - Abancay - Cusco - Lima

Participants must arrive in the city of Lima one day before the start of our adventure.

For this they will count on us for help and advice. Once in Lima, we will pick you up at the airport and lodge you at the selected accommodation.

RECEPTION IN LIMA AND DEPARTURE TO THE JUNGLE
  • Day 01 - August 10 / From Lima we will cross the Andes mountain range towards the Amazon jungle.
  • 09:00 Registration of participants and luggage.
  • 11:30 Departure towards the jungle - La Merced / Lunch on the road.
  • 19:00 Arrival at La Merced, dinner, lodge in accommodation and overnight (Hotel).
JUNGLE, LA MERCED AND THE  MANTARO VALLEY 

Day 02 - August 11 / Jungle, nature, excellent weather and beautiful landscapes.

  • 08:00 Breakfast and visit of the city of La Merced, Viewpoint and Cross of Peace, visit and navigation of Perene river.
  • 13:00 Lunch and adventure walk along the "Tres Reinas" river,  which has beautiful waterfalls and amazing bird and butterfly watching.
  • 18:00 Departure towards the Mantaro Valley "Huancayo." We will cross the mountain range to Andean sierra.
  • 22:00 Arrival in Huancayo, dinner and lodge in accommodation and overnight (Hotel).
MANTARO VALLEY -  INCA TRAIL - NOR YAUYOS RESERVE

Day 03 - August 12 - Huancayo, Bosque Dorado and Ingenio.

  • 08:00 After a typical breakfast, we will visit the city of Huancayo and its charming traditional market.
  • 11:00 Tour of "Bosque dorado", a beautiful half-day walk through a very special natural area.
  • 13:00 Country lunch in the idyllic spot of "Ingenio" where we will eat traditional Andean food.
  • 15:00 Afternoon shopping and provisioning.
  • 20:00 Fellowship dinner and welcome with Andean Show (Peruvian music and dance).

Day 04 - August 13 - Two-day walk along the Inca Trail, in the domain of the most important Andean god of ancient Peru.

  • 05:00 Departure by mini bus in direction of the Inca Trail, passing through towns of Pachacayo and Canchayo we will arrive at Portachuelo.
  • 08:00 Start of trekking on the Inca Trail. We will go around the most incredible landscapes with beautiful lagoons, rivers, and mountains. Additionally, we will visit the mythical "Escalerayoc," an Inca staircase of more than 2 000 steps. Throughout the tour we will have extraordinary views of the ancient god Pariaqaqa.
  • 13:00 Picnic lunch, visit to Cuchimachay cave, cave paintings of more than 12 thousand years.
  • 14:00 We will continue with the walk, passing through Muyococha lagoon to the Atarhuay ravine. We will have dinner and spend the night in tents at the foot of the "Pariaqaqa".


Day 05 - August 14 - Second day of hiking, from Atarhuay to Tanta and first solidarity activity.

  • 08:00 Breakfast, enjoying the Andean sunrise and with the beautiful view of the Pariaqaqa.
  • 10:00 Restart of trekking on the Inca Trail.We will skirt several high Andean lagoons to reach Tanta.
  • 16:00 End of the walk, arrival at the small town of Tanta. We will walk through its small cobblestone streets.
  • 17:00 Solidarity activity -delivery of donations (food and warm clothes) for children of the town.
  • 19:00 Dinner and overnight in cabin type accommodation.

Day 06 - August 15 - Tour from Tanta to Vilca and Huancaya, we will pass through beautiful waterfalls of Cañete river.

  • 08:00 Breakfast, restart of trip by minibus. During this stretch we will make a small excursion through the waterfalls of Cañete river.
  • 14:00 Arrival in Huancaya, a small town on the banks of Cañete river surrounded by beautiful waterfalls, traditional Andean lunch.
  • 15:00 Departure by mini bus heading to Huancayo.
  • 19:00 Arrival in Huancayo, dinner and overnight in hotel.
HUANCAYO - HUANCAVELICA - AYACUCHO - ABANCAY (CHOQUEQUIRAO)

Day 07 - August 16 - Train trip to Huancavelica - Second solidarity activity.

  • 06:00 Travel on the mythical Huancavelica Train, which is one of the most authentic rail routes in the Andes and a once in a lifetime experience.
  • 11:00 Arrival in Huancavelica / Lunch.
  • 13:00 Afternoon - Solidarity activity, implementation and conditioning of a classroom, in a rural school (painting, cleaning, furniture repair, etc.).
  • 19:00 Dinner and Overnight - Hotel accommodation.


Day 08 - August 17 - Huancavelica/Ayacucho.

  • 06:00 Breakfast and departure by mini bus towards Ayacucho, an old colonial city, beautiful houses and Spanish temples.
  • 13:00 After touring the Andes mountain range through extraordinary landscapes we will arrive in Ayacucho / lunch.
  • 15:00 Tour of the city, Sucre Square, buildings from XVI-XVII centuries and some of its 33 churches built during the colonial era.


Day 09 - August 18 - Ayacucho/Abancay - Cachora, starting point of trek to Choquequirao.

  • 06:00 Departure from Ayacucho to Abancay and from there to Cachora. During the trip you will see impressive landscapes and mountain ranges, as well as the Pacucha lagoon and the archaeological remains of Sondor and Saiwite stone.
  • 20:00 Arrival in Cachora, dinner and overnight in cabin type accommodation.


Day 10 - August 19 - Cachora hike / Rosa linda and Santa Rosa Beach.

  • 07:00 Breakfast and start of the walk, Cachocra/Rosalinda Beach/Santa Rosa stretch, picnic lunch. View of Salkantay, Ampay, Padrayoc mountains and Apurimac river canyon.
  • 17:00 Arrival in Santa Rosa, dinner and overnight - Camp.


Day 12 - August 21 - Choquequirao/Maizal hike.

  • 07:00 Breakfast and start of the walk, Choquequirao/Rio Blanco Beach/Maizal stretch. Picnic lunch. During this journey we will visit Chooquequirao pass, the archaeological remains of Pinchaunuyoc (Inca Platforms), the Victoria River, and Maizal hamlet.
  • 18:00 Dinner and overnight in Maizal - Camp.


Day 13 - August 22 - Maizal/Santa Teresa hike.

  • 07:00 Breakfast and start of the walk, Maizal/Yanama/Santa Teresa stretch, picnic lunch. During the tour we will see San Juan pass, Victoria mine (Silver vein), in addition to many beautiful mountain landscapes.
  • 18:00 Dinner and overnight in Santa Teresa. Hostel type accommodation.


Day 14 - August 23 - Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes.

  • 07:00 Breakfast and start of the tour (tourist bus) Santa Teresa / Hydroelectric and walk to Aguas Calientes. We will go around: Santa Teresa, Cocalmayo thermal baths, hydroelectric, point from where we start the walk towards Aguas Calientes. Lunch.
  • 18:00 Dinner and overnight in Aguas Calientes, Hostel type accommodation. Dinner and overnight - Camp.


Day 12 - August 21 - Choquequirao/Maizal hike.

Day 14 - August 23 - Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes.

  • 07:00 Breakfast and start of the tour (tourist bus) Santa Teresa / Hydroelectric and walk to Aguas Calientes. We will go around: Santa Teresa, Cocalmayo thermal baths, hydroelectric, point from where we start the walk towards Aguas Calientes. Lunch.
  • 18:00 Dinner and overnight in Aguas Calientes, Hostel type accommodation.


AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO - LIMA

Day 15 - August 24 - Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu.

  • 06:00 Breakfast. Depart from Aguas Calientes to visit Machu Picchu, visit MACHU PICCHU.
  • 13:00 Return to Aguas Calientes and lunch.
  • Very important note: At the end, participants will be able to take their flights to Lima, to return to their places of origin, or if they prefer to stay in Cusco. Until the date they have scheduled their return. All this with prior advice from our organization and its coordinators.
  • 14:00 Return to Santa Teresa.
  • 19:00 Dinner and overnight, hostel type accommodation.


Day 16 - August 25 - Santa Teresa - Cusco.

  • 07:00 Breakfast in Santa Teresa.
  • 08:00 Departure to Cusco, picnic lunch.
  • 19:00 Dinner and overnight in Cusco, Hostel type accommodation.


Day 17 - August 26 - Cusco / City tour.

  • 09:00 Breakfast and Visit of the city of Cusco (City Tour).
  • 14:00 Farewell lunch / free afternoon.


Very important note: At the end, participants will be able to take their flights to Lima, to return to their places of origin, or if they prefer to stay in Cusco. Until the date they have scheduled their return. All this with prior advice from our organization and its coordinators.
