Expand Peru is an organization with more than 10 years of experience working with international volunteers in urban and rural zones in the Central Andes of Peru in order to help children and their families living in unfortunate situations.

During this time, we have had a dream: to grow in order to help more children. This year, in 2011, we are taking a big step towards making this dream a reality. In addition to the already existing programs in the city of Huancayo and the Montaro Valley, we will be starting a new volunteer program in Lima. Within the next few months, we will do the same in the cities of Ica and Pisco along the southern coast, as well as in La Merced in the jungle region.

UNPAID VOLUNTEER

Our organization urgently needs volunteer that can attend to the needs of schoolage children (between 6 and 12 years old) through CASA, our center for education and assistance (see the program description for more information).

Pucara

A small town located in the Central Andes of Peru, Pucara sits between beautiful mountains to the south of the Montaro Valley. The town is home to approximately 5,000 inhabitants of which many are children. The primary economic activity in this region is small-scale agriculture and cattle farming.

Soccer Clinic

Thanks to Barry and the Everton Club of England for starting a soccer clinic for the children of Pucara. We now have a 12-and-under team, but we are in need of coaches and supplies in order to continue this program. Constructing Lives:

In Pucara, poor families are living in substandard conditions and are in need of many basic necessities. Above all else, these families need someone to help then to repair and rebuild their houses. The inhabitants of this town are very poor, and it is common for 5 people to share one bed while others sleep on the floor. Help us to help the families of Pucara; we need volunteers that have skills in carpentry, construction, etc. We also need donations to buy beds, stoves, clothes, and more. Grateful Hearts

Expand Perú is continually grateful for the support we receive from our volunteers, our social assistance partners, and those who donate to our cause. In the last six months, the word “thank you” has been on our minds and hearts. When we say thank you we are not only grateful for the material support we have been given but also for the encouragement we have received from our family and friends as well from those who have given their time to serve our children and our mission of social assistance.

Rockin’ the Cause to Construct Change

On April 8, 2010, volunteer Joe Smith teamed with local Huancayan bands to put on a charity concert that truly rocked the cause at local discoteck, La Noche. With more than 150 people in attendance, Expand Perú was able to raise more than s/1800 to support the construction for the new CASA center of assistance in San Pedro de Saño. The audience enjoyed a variety of rock rhythms while learning more about Expand Perú and its CASA program.

Hats Off to Our Partner for 68 Years of Service

Expand Perú partner INABIF, a government-run, all boys orphanage, celebrates 68 years of social assistance. INABIF houses and supports approximately 40 boys between the ages of 6 and 18. The goal of the orphanage is to offer a home to young boys who know what it means to live on the streets. These children are in a state of social abandonment; some boys come from violent homes while others have been left orphaned.

Put aside the sun towel and sandals this year to see the real Peru. Spring break is quickly approaching and this year Expand Peru invites volunteers from around the world to join its efforts. This spring, volunteers are coming together to offer social assistance in Huancayo, Peru, where about 36% of the population is living under the poverty line.
